WRHS Students Making a Difference

I made note during the most recent School Committee meeting of how impressed I have been with students actively making a difference in our communities.  Another great example of this work will be coming to fruition at the Holden Town Meeting this Monday, October 17, 2022 at 7:00 pm.  In 2019 students in Ms. Jasiekiewicz CP Civics in the 21st Century class began a project in conjunction with the Holden Recreation Director, members of the Board of Selectmen, and the Holden Town Manager to build an inclusive playground at the Holden Municipal Light Department.

As a result of their work, the project has been able to advance at warp speed and the committee is now looking to secure funding from the town for the design and engineering study essential to move the project forward.  The original student presentation (link here to view) as well as three potential designs (link here to view) were presented to the Board of Selectman on October 4th.  The crucial next step for the project will be the third item voted on the town warrant titled "Funding for a design and engineering study for an All-Inclusive Playground renovation at the HMLD playground".  We thank Ms. Jasiekiewicz and our students for their hard work and advocacy on behalf of others in their community, and wish them the very best moving the project forward!
